Avatar 2 Box Office Prediction: James Cameron's film set for blistering start, aims new records | Hollywood

Avatar 2 Box Office

Before it hit theaters, analysts and trade publications had laid out aggressive forecasts:Variety reported a domestic (U.S.) gross prediction of ≈ US$ 649 million. Some projections had a global opening weekend in the neighborhood of US$ 550 million (i.e. combining domestic + overseas) to be expected. In the Indian market, pundits expected a day‑1 collection around Rs 40 crore (≈ US$ 5–6 million

depending on exchange) across all languages. On the more ambitious side, some critics (e.g. in Forbes) argued the sequel could push US$ 2.25+ billion globally under favorable conditions.

These predictions reflect the high expectations around the franchise (given how big Avatar 1 was) and James Cameron’s reputation for spectacle-driven box office success.

  • Domestic (U.S.) total: ~ US$ 550–700 million

  • Global total: ~ US$ 2.0–2.5 billion

  • Opening weekend (global): ~ US$ 400–600 million, depending heavily on overseas strength

  • India day‑1: Rs 30–45 crore regionally (very dependent on language versions and show formats)

In other words: a blistering start as many headlines claimed, paired with sustained grosses globally to reach the multi‑billion level.
