Summary
Devdas tells the tragic story of Devdas Mukherjee, a wealthy young man who returns to India from London after years of study. He deeply loves his childhood friend Paro, but his family rejects her, considering her lower social status. Paro ends up marrying another man. Heartbroken, Devdas spirals into self-destruction, alcoholism, and despair. He finds temporary solace in Chandramukhi, a kind-hearted courtesan, but his emotional wounds run deep, leading to a tragic end. Wikipedia
Final Verdict
Devdas (2002) is widely regarded as a landmark in Bollywood cinema — a tragic romantic epic that combines literary source material, opulent design, and strong performances. It may not be for everyone (especially if you’re not a fan of melodrama or long films), but if you enjoy emotionally intense romance, classical aesthetics, and dramatic storytelling, it's definitely a must-watch.
