My summary of what could be the story

Based on the trailer & listings:
The sequel picks up years after the climactic battle of the first film. William Garin (Matt Damon) is now a seasoned veteran/legend; Lin Mae (Jing Tian) heads the Nameless Order. A hidden threat emerges from deep under the Wall — an evolved enemy far more cunning than the original Taotie. The Wall is no longer simply a defensive bulwark: its entire purpose is being challenged. Alliances are tested, new warriors emerge (possibly including Pedro Pascal’s character), and a prophecy about a “Phoenix”-like rebirth or “Rise of the Phoenix” is referenced in the title. The new battle is global (or at least much bigger than before) and appears to feature more fantasy/legendary elements — dragon riders, underground cities, new weapons, and a mythic scope.

Important caveats
