Interesting Trivia & Facts

The villain Malekith and his race, the Dark Elves, are drawn from Marvel Comics (originally from the run by writer/artist Walt Simonson) but the movie takes a lot of liberties.

There was some criticism about the film’s production: many discussions note that post-production changes, reshoots, and studio involvement were heavy. For example:

“Patty Jenkins … was the original director of the dark world … she wanted to have no Loki and focus entirely on a dramatic romance …”

The film does have a cameo by Stan Lee: While Dr. Selvig is in a mental institution he asks for questions; Stan Lee (as a patient) asks: “Can I have my shoe back?”

On the set, there was a playful moment: Natalie Portman reportedly slapped Chris Hemsworth on screen (and also punched Tom Hiddleston) and Hemsworth said it “hurt a little bit”.

In terms of critical reception: On Rotten Tomatoes the film holds around 67% “Tomatometer” rating
